SITTER'S System requirements:
---------------------------
MS-DOS 2.0 (or greater)
640k of memory (* required)
Monochrome (or color) monitor
(1) 5 1/4" floppy disk drive (for loading of software)
(1) hard disk drive (for program and data files)
(1) printer (any dot matrix)
NO SPECIAL FORMS ARE REQUIRED. ALL REPORTS WILL BE
PRINTED ON 8 1/2" X 11" STANDARD STOCK PAPER.
(Note - SITTER'S is a single user system and is not
qualified for multi-user, or network, usage.)
Files contained on your distribution disks:
-------------------------------------------
disk #1 README.1ST = Basic instructions
INSTSIT.EXE = Self installing 'SITTER.EXE'
(The 'SITTER.EXE' prgram requires over 420 k
of disk space and is distributed in a compressed
format. INSTSIT.EXE will de-compress the SITTER.EXE
program into the directory you wish to operate from.
MANUALS.EXE = Contains a copy of your user manual('s)
and other releated documentation in compressed format.
To print your user manuals you must first decompress
them into a format you can read. This can be done by
copying the MANUALS.EXE file to your hard disk and
executing it.
Steps to follow for primary system installation:
------------------------------------------------
1. Make a backup of the SITTER'S distribution disk and
store the original in a save place. Use the newly
created backup disk for all following installation
instructions.
2. Check to insure that you have a 'CONFIG.SYS' file in
your root directory with the following MINIMUM
values:
FILES = 20
BUFFERS = 8
If you do not have a 'CONFIG.SYS' file, or it does not
contain these minimum values, consult your DOS manual
on how to create/modify your 'CONFIG.SYS' file.
(Note - SITTER'S will not operate properly, and may
crash, if your 'CONFIG.SYS' file does not exist with
these values. If you needed to create, or modify, your
'CONFIG.SYS' file be sure that you reboot your system
before you continue. Your system only reads the values
contained in your 'CONFIG.SYS' file at initial system
boot.)
3. From your root directory create a sub-directory that
will contain your SITTER'S program and data files.
The following DOS command will create a sub-directory
called "SITTERS".
C>MD\SITTERS <return>
4. Once you have created the sub-directory, select the
new sub-directory by entering:
C>CD\SITTERS <return>
5. Insert SITTER'S distribution disk into drive 'A' and
copy the contents of drive 'A' into the newly created
SITTERS sub-directory by entering the following DOS
command:
C>COPY A:*.* <return>
Remove disk from drive 'A' upon completion.
6. To de-compress your 'SITTER.EXE' program (* REQUIRED *)
enter the following command:
C>INSTSIT <return>
This will extract the compressed 'SITTER.EXE' program
from the INSTSIT.EXE program and place it in the sub-
directory you are currently operating from in a format
usable by your system.
7. To de-compress your user manual enter the following
command:
C>MANUAL <return>
This will extract your compressed user manual and other
releated user documentation.
8. Print your user manual and read before going any
further.
a: turn on your printer
b: enter C>MANUAL <return>
9. Print your 'HOW TO' manual and read before you decide to
go into the SITTER business.
a: turn on your printer
b: enter C>HOWTO <return>
*** INSTALLATION COMPLETED ***
------------------------------------------
Steps to follow for System Initialization:
-----------------------------------------
(Note: SITTER'S system initialization is performed automatically
the first time you load the SITTER.EXE program. Upon completion
of system initialization the file 'SITMVBLS.MEM' is created and
placed into the sub-directory you are operation from. If you
ever need to repeat this system initialization process just
delete this 'SITMVBLS.MEM' file and then re-load the SITTER.EXE
program.)
1. Make the sub-directory you loaded your SITTER'S
distribution disks into your current sub-directory by
entering the following command:
C>CD\SITTERS <return>
2. Load the SITTER.EXE program into memory by entering:
C>SITTER <return>
3. Because this is the first time you have loaded the
SITTER'S program the file 'SITMVBLS.MEM' should not be
present. After the SITTER.EXE program has been loaded into
memory it looks for the presence of the file 'SITMVBLS.MEM'.
If not found SITTER'S assumes that system initialization has
not been performed and immediately enters its INITIALIZATION
routine. You will be presented the following questions to
answer:
A: Enter disk reference that your data files will
reside on. This will default to hard disk drive 'C'.
You can accept this default value, or enter any valid
hard disk drive reference, then press <return>.
B: (If SITTER'S has been previously installed your data
files will already exist.) SITTER'S will check to
insure that the data file it is about to create does
not already exist. If it locates a data file of the
same name as it is ready to create you will be
displayed a message asking if you wish to 'REBUILD
(Y/N):'. If you enter a 'Y' the existing data file will
be deleted and a new - blank - data file will be
created. If the file does not exist the SITTER'S will
create the missing data file. If no data file exists
for the one about to be created then SITTER'S will
automatically create this file without asking you any
questions.
C: Following the generation of your data files you will
be presented a screen for you to enter in your business
name and address, and your registration number.
(Remember this registration number is supplied only to
registered users. This registration number can be
entered any time after system initialization by use of
the SITTER'S - UTILITIES sub-menu options.)
