  22. SITTER'S System requirements:
  23. ---------------------------

  25.         MS-DOS 2.0 (or greater)
  26.         640k of memory (* required)
  27.         Monochrome (or color) monitor
  28.         (1) 5 1/4" floppy disk drive (for loading of software)
  29.         (1) hard disk drive (for program and data files)
  30.         (1) printer (any dot matrix)
  31.  
  32.         NO SPECIAL FORMS ARE REQUIRED. ALL REPORTS WILL BE
  33.         PRINTED ON 8 1/2" X 11" STANDARD STOCK PAPER.

  35.         (Note  -  SITTER'S  is a single user system  and  is  not
  36.         qualified for multi-user, or network, usage.)

  39. Files contained on your distribution disks:
  40. -------------------------------------------
  41. disk #1          README.1ST    = Basic instructions
  42.                  INSTSIT.EXE   = Self installing 'SITTER.EXE'
  43.                  (The 'SITTER.EXE' prgram requires over 420 k
  44.                   of disk space and is distributed in a compressed
  45.                   format. INSTSIT.EXE will de-compress the SITTER.EXE
  46.                   program into the directory you wish to operate from.
  47.                  MANUALS.EXE   = Contains a copy of your user manual('s)
  48.                   and other releated documentation in compressed format. 
  49.                   To print your user manuals you must first decompress
  50.                   them into a format you can read. This can be done by 
  51.                   copying the MANUALS.EXE file to your hard disk and
  52.                   executing it.

  55. Steps to follow for primary system installation:
  56. ------------------------------------------------
  57.         1.  Make a backup of the SITTER'S distribution  disk  and
  58.             store  the original in a save place.  Use  the  newly
  59.             created  backup disk  for all following  installation
  60.             instructions.
  61.  
  62.         2.  Check to insure that you have a 'CONFIG.SYS' file  in
  63.             your  root  directory  with  the  following   MINIMUM
  64.             values:
  65.  
  66.            FILES = 20
  67.            BUFFERS = 8
  68.  
  69.            If you do not have a 'CONFIG.SYS' file, or it does not
  70.            contain these minimum values, consult your DOS  manual
  71.            on how to create/modify your 'CONFIG.SYS' file.
  72.  
  73.            (Note  - SITTER'S will not operate properly,  and  may
  74.            crash,  if your 'CONFIG.SYS' file does not exist  with
  75.            these values. If you needed to create, or modify, your
  76.            'CONFIG.SYS' file be sure that you  reboot your system
  77.            before you continue. Your system only reads the values
  78.            contained in your 'CONFIG.SYS' file at initial  system
  79.            boot.)

  81.         3. From  your root directory create a sub-directory  that
  82.            will  contain  your SITTER'S program and  data  files.
  83.            The following DOS command will create a  sub-directory
  84.            called "SITTERS".

  86.                 C>MD\SITTERS <return>
  87.  
  88.         4. Once  you have created the sub-directory,  select  the
  89.            new sub-directory by entering:
  90.  
  91.                 C>CD\SITTERS <return>
  92.  
  93.         5. Insert  SITTER'S  distribution disk into drive 'A' and
  94.            copy the contents of drive 'A' into the newly  created
  95.            SITTERS  sub-directory by entering the  following  DOS
  96.            command:

  98.                 C>COPY A:*.* <return>
  99.  
  100.            Remove disk from drive 'A' upon completion.
  101.  
  102.         6. To de-compress your 'SITTER.EXE' program (* REQUIRED *)
  103.            enter the following command:
  104.  
  105.                 C>INSTSIT <return>
  106.  
  107.  
  108.            This will extract the compressed 'SITTER.EXE' program
  109.            from the INSTSIT.EXE program and place it in the sub-
  110.            directory you are currently operating from in a format
  111.            usable by your system.

  113.         7. To de-compress your user manual enter the following
  114.            command:
  115.  
  116.                 C>MANUAL <return>
  117.  
  118.            This will extract your compressed user manual and other
  119.            releated user documentation.
  120.  
  121.         8. Print  your  user manual and read  before  going  any
  122.            further.
  123.  
  124.                 a: turn on your printer
  125.                 b: enter C>MANUAL  <return>
  126.  
  127.         9. Print your 'HOW TO' manual and read before you decide to 
  128.            go into the SITTER business.

  139. Steps to follow for System Initialization:
  140. -----------------------------------------
  141. (Note: SITTER'S system initialization is performed  automatically
  142. the first time you load the SITTER.EXE program.  Upon  completion
  143. of  system initialization the file 'SITMVBLS.MEM' is created  and
  144. placed  into  the sub-directory you are operation from.   If  you
  145. ever  need  to  repeat this system  initialization  process  just
  146. delete  this 'SITMVBLS.MEM' file and then re-load the  SITTER.EXE
  147. program.)

  149.      1.   Make  the  sub-directory  you  loaded   your   SITTER'S
  150.      distribution  disks  into  your  current  sub-directory   by
  151.      entering the following command:
  152.  
  153.           C>CD\SITTERS <return>
  154.  
  155.      2. Load the SITTER.EXE program into memory by entering:
  156.  
  157.           C>SITTER <return>
  158.  
  159.  
  160.      3.  Because  this  is the first time  you  have  loaded  the
  161.      SITTER'S  program  the  file 'SITMVBLS.MEM'  should  not  be
  162.      present.  After the SITTER.EXE program has been loaded  into
  163.      memory it looks for the presence of the file 'SITMVBLS.MEM'.
  164.      If not found SITTER'S assumes that system initialization has
  165.      not been performed and immediately enters its INITIALIZATION
  166.      routine.  You will be presented the following  questions  to
  167.      answer:
  168.  
  169.           A:  Enter  disk  reference that your  data  files  will
  170.           reside  on. This will default to hard disk  drive  'C'.
  171.           You  can accept this default value, or enter any  valid
  172.           hard disk drive reference, then press <return>.
  173.  
  174.           B: (If SITTER'S has been previously installed your data
  175.           files  will  already  exist.) SITTER'S  will  check  to
  176.           insure  that the data file it is about to  create  does
  177.           not  already  exist. If it locates a data file  of  the
  178.           same  name  as  it  is ready  to  create  you  will  be
  179.           displayed  a  message asking if you  wish  to  'REBUILD
  180.           (Y/N):'. If you enter a 'Y' the existing data file will
  181.           be  deleted  and  a new - blank -  data  file  will  be
  182.           created.  If the file does not exist the SITTER'S  will
  183.           create  the missing data file. If no data  file  exists
  184.           for  the  one about to be created  then  SITTER'S  will
  185.           automatically  create this file without asking you  any
  186.           questions.

  188.           C: Following the generation of your data files you will
  189.           be presented a screen for you to enter in your business
  190.           name   and  address,  and  your  registration   number.
  191.           (Remember this registration number is supplied only  to
  192.           registered  users.  This  registration  number  can  be
  193.           entered any time after system initialization by use  of
  194.           the SITTER'S - UTILITIES sub-menu options.)
